RE: HLF Software Update — What You Need to Know (Bulletin 03/2026)

HLF has pushed out a new software release as of June 22, 2026, and there are a couple of things worth understanding before you update — especially one change to how update files are named that could trip you up if you're not paying attention.

How to get the update

If your machine is connected to the internet, the new software will come down automatically through the update system. If you'd rather grab it manually, it'll be available on the "Software Updates" link on the menu in a few days.

The big one: update files are now split by display type

This is the change to actually pay attention to. Going forward, the .apk update files are different depending on whether your machine has a SmartEComp display (the legacy/older display) or an Engicam display (the newer one). Every release now ships two files per version, and they are not interchangeable.

You can tell them apart by the file name:

• SmartEComp (legacy): the file ends in the version number, e.g. ...V2.073A1.apk — same as it's always been.

• Engicam (new): the file has -SIGNED added before the extension, e.g. ...V2.073A1-SIGNED.apk.

Install the wrong one and the machine will throw an error. So before you flash anything, confirm which display you're working with. The one exception is the 5700, which still uses the SmartEComp display, so there's only one file for that model.

What's actually new in this release

The headline feature is 7" display support on the HLF 1700, which came with a full redesign of where everything sits on screen — several menus are now spread across multiple pages so nothing gets buried.

On the reliability side, HLF also added compatibility between SmartEComp and Engicam displays across the lineup (everything except the 5700), and fixed a bug on the 1700 where the daily cleaning cycle wouldn't start automatically on machines with the external cleaning module and the detergent sensor disabled.

A few quieter improvements: the puck ejection cycle was reworked to use fewer pulses, which means less mechanical effort each time the group dumps the puck, and the E58 over-temperature alarm for Boiler 1 now trips at 115°C.
